AIKO solar panels

AIKO panels use All Back Contact technology, a fundamentally different cell design that removes the metal grid lines from the front of the panel entirely. The result is one of the most efficient solar panels available in Australia, generating more power from the same roof space than standard panels. We added AIKO to our range because the technology is genuinely better for North Queensland conditions, particularly for homes with limited roof space or high power demands.

More power from the same roof, every day

Most solar panels have fine metal grid lines printed across the front surface to collect the electricity generated by the cell. Those grid lines block a small but meaningful amount of incoming sunlight before it ever reaches the silicon. AIKO’s All Back Contact design removes those grid lines entirely. Both electrical contacts sit on the rear of the panel, leaving the entire front surface free to capture light. In Townsville where you have around 320 sunny days a year, that efficiency advantage compounds across the full life of the system.

Higher output per panel

Each AIKO Gen 3 panel produces 535W to 550W. That is around 30W more per panel than a comparable standard panel of the same physical size. On a 10-panel system, that adds up to 300W of additional capacity without touching another centimetre of your roof.

Better performance in the heat

All solar panels lose some output when they get hot. AIKO’s temperature coefficient of -0.26% per degree Celsius is better than the standard figure of around -0.29% for comparable panels. On a Townsville summer afternoon when your roof is sitting at 60 to 70 degrees, that difference is real and measurable.

Earlier start, later finish

AIKO’s ABC cells are more sensitive to lower light conditions. In practical terms this means the panels begin generating earlier in the morning and continue generating later in the afternoon. In Townsville that extended generation window lines up well with household demand patterns.

Better shade performance

AIKO’s back contact design handles partial shading better than conventional panels, maintaining more output when a leaf, bird dropping or antenna shadow falls across part of the panel.

Stronger cell connections

AIKO replaces conventional silver soldering with copper electroplated interconnections. The result is a stronger physical bond between cells that is more resistant to the micro-cracking that can develop under the thermal cycling of North Queensland’s climate.

Why panel quality matters more in Townsville

Built for the heat

A temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C means AIKO panels lose less output on hot days than standard panels. In Townsville where roof temperatures regularly exceed 60 degrees in summer, this is not a minor detail.

Resistant to thermal cycling

Copper electroplated cell connections are significantly more resistant to micro-cracking than silver solder. In a climate where roof temperatures swing by 40 degrees or more between morning and afternoon, the physical resilience of the cell connections matters over the long term.

Strong degradation warranty

AIKO guarantees at least 89.4% of original output at 30 years. The industry standard is 80 to 85% at 25 years. That gap represents real generation across the life of your system in one of Australia’s sunniest cities.

Clean all-black appearance

With no grid lines on the front surface, AIKO panels have a uniform all-black appearance. For homes where the look of the installation matters, the back contact design produces one of the most visually clean panels available.

CEC approved

AIKO Gen 3 panels received Clean Energy Council approval in March 2026, making them eligible for Australia’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. The federal STC rebate applies to AIKO installations through True North Solar.

Australian office and warranty support

AIKO maintains an Australian office in Melbourne providing local warranty support and compliance with Australian Consumer Law. Any warranty claim goes through a manufacturer with genuine local representation.
Who AIKO suits

When paying a little more for a better panel makes sense

AIKO panels cost modestly more than standard alternatives. Whether that premium is worth it depends on your situation. If you have plenty of roof space and modest power needs, standard panels will serve you well. Where the efficiency advantage tends to pay off is in the situations below.

Best for: homes with limited roof space

If your roof area is the constraint on how large a system you can install, higher efficiency panels let you fit more generating capacity into the space you have. A standard panel might produce 400W in the same footprint where an AIKO produces 545W. That gap can be the difference between a 6.6kW and a 10kW system on the same roof.

Best for: homes with high power demands

Townsville households with multiple air conditioners, a pool, electric hot water and a home office can consume 40kWh or more per day. Getting that consumption down significantly requires a system large enough to generate it. AIKO panels make it easier to reach a meaningful system size, especially on roofs where space is at a premium.

Best for: homes planning battery storage or an EV

A battery needs enough solar generation during the day to fill it. An EV adds significant daily charging demand. Both scenarios benefit from higher panel output. If you are thinking five years ahead, installing AIKO now means your system has more headroom for what comes next.
Warranty and support

Backed by a local Australian presence

AIKO maintains an Australian office in Melbourne specifically to provide warranty support and ensure compliance with Australian Consumer Law. When you buy AIKO panels through True North Solar, any warranty claim goes through a manufacturer with genuine local representation, not a distant overseas operation. AIKO won the SolarQuotes Installers’ Choice Award in both 2025 and 2026, voted by Australian solar installers nationwide.

25-year product warranty

AIKO’s product warranty covers physical manufacturing defects for 25 years. If the glass delaminates, the frame warps or the cell connections fail prematurely, the panel is replaced.

30-year performance warranty

AIKO guarantees at least 89.4% of original output at 30 years. The industry standard warranty guarantees 80 to 85% at 25 years. AIKO holds both a higher retention threshold and a longer timeframe.

Federal STC rebate applies

AIKO Gen 3 panels are CEC approved and eligible for Australia’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. The federal STC rebate is applied upfront to every True North Solar quote, reducing the out-of-pocket cost of your installation.
Federal STC rebate

Small-scale Technology Certificates

AIKO solar panels are eligible for Australia’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. The federal government provides an upfront rebate on eligible solar installations in the form of Small-scale Technology Certificates, which we apply directly to your quote so you can see your actual cost from the start.

Townsville’s high solar resource means homes here typically generate more STCs than in most other Australian cities, which increases the rebate value. The exact amount depends on system size and the current STC price, which adjusts periodically. We calculate and apply the correct figure to every quote.
